The central government has declared a seven-day national mourning in memory of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away at 92. During this period, the National Flag will be flown at half-mast nationwide, and no official entertainment will take place. Indian missions abroad will also lower the flag to half-mast.
State chief ministers, including those of Karnataka and Telangana, have expressed condolences and declared state mourning. Karnataka has announced a public holiday for schools, colleges, and offices on Friday, while Telangana has declared a holiday for government offices and educational institutions.
The Congress party has suspended all official events, including its Foundation Day celebrations, and called off its rally in Belgaum, Karnataka. Party activities will resume on January 3, 2025. Manmohan Singh’s last rites will be held in New Delhi on Saturday, with full state honors. His body will be placed for public viewing at his residence at 3, Motilal Nehru Marg.
