Dehradun: In a major statewide operation, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has intensified action against illegal madrasas, resulting in 52 closures within the last 15 days.
Action Across Multiple Districts
On Monday, authorities sealed 12 madrasas in Vikasnagar (Dehradun) and 9 in Khatima following the CM’s strict directives. Earlier, 31 unauthorized madrasas were shut down across various districts.
Reasons Behind the Crackdown
- Lack of registration and legal compliance
- Concerns over irregular religious education
- Potential demographic impact and security concerns
Intelligence reports suggest that unregistered madrasas were expanding rapidly, particularly in Western Dehradun and other sensitive areas. Officials claim that these institutions were allegedly misusing religious freedom laws for unauthorized activities.
CM Dhami’s Strong Warning
CM Dhami has sent a clear and strict message, stating:
“No one will be allowed to interfere with Uttarakhand’s cultural and legal framework. Those violating the law or engaging in illegal activities will face severe consequences.”
The administration has vowed to continue verification drives, ensuring all educational institutions operate within legal frameworks.
