Prime Minister Narendra Modi will become the first Indian prime minister to visit Anandpur Dham in Madhya Pradesh’s Ashoknagar district today, marking a significant moment for the spiritual hub. The visit, centered on religious engagements, will see PM Modi meet the revered Guru of the Anandpur Trust and address a satsang sabha, drawing global attention to this sacred site rooted in the Advaita Math tradition.
A Spiritual Journey to Anandpur
PM Modi’s visit is purely devotional, reflecting the deep cultural and spiritual significance of Anandpur Dham. Arriving in Isagarh at 1 p.m., he will meet Swami Vidyar Purananand, the sixth Padshahi (head) of the Anandpur Trust, tour the ashram, and visit its goshala, home to 500 cattle. The trust, established in 1939 by Advaita Anand (Paramhans Dayal), oversees a global network of 1,000 ashrams, including 36 in India, with Anandpur as its headquarters.
The Anandpur Trust has earned a reputation for its unique traditions and social initiatives, such as the 125-bed Bistara Charitable Hospital and satsang centers in cities like Shivpuri, Gwalior, Indore, Pune, and Delhi, as well as international locations. Spanning 315 hectares, the trust’s influence extends far beyond Madhya Pradesh, attracting devotees worldwide, especially during the grand Baisakhi celebrations.
The Legacy of Anandpur’s Leadership
Anandpur Dham’s governance is distinctive, with each Guru appointing their successor before passing. Swami Vidyar Purananand, a native of Anandpur, currently leads as the sixth Padshahi, guiding devotees who often honor their Guru’s name in official documents, replacing traditional family names. This practice underscores the trust’s profound spiritual bond with its followers.
The Advaita Math, which the trust represents, promotes unity and service, making Anandpur a beacon of faith. The Guru’s decisions are final across all affiliated trusts, and darshan opportunities are rare, reserved for special occasions, adding to the anticipation surrounding PM Modi’s visit.
A Milestone for Madhya Pradesh
The Prime Minister’s address at the satsang sabha, following the Guru’s speech, is expected to highlight Anandpur’s contributions to spirituality and community welfare. The visit underscores the trust’s role in placing Ashoknagar on the global stage, fostering pride among locals and devotees alike.
As PM Modi steps into this historic ashram, his presence bridges tradition and modernity, spotlighting Anandpur Dham’s enduring legacy. The event promises to be a moment of reflection and celebration for the thousands who look to Anandpur as a spiritual home.
