Shimla: The government is set to present the budget on Monday, which may include announcements for the transport sector. One of the key expectations is related to the construction of bus terminals. It is anticipated that the government will announce the inauguration of newly constructed bus terminals and unveil plans for additional ones. A total of seven new bus terminals are expected to be completed this year.
Three bus terminals have already been completed, and inauguration dates are being scheduled. Meanwhile, construction on the remaining four bus terminals is expected to be finished by the end of this year. Additionally, older bus terminals managed by the Bus Stand Management Authority, where new ones have been built, will be converted into parking facilities. A report related to this has already been submitted by the Bus Stand Management Authority.
Among the bus terminals ready for inauguration are:
- JanJheli Bus Terminal, which is nearly complete.
- Sarkaghat and Theog Bus Terminals, both of which are also ready and awaiting inauguration.
Additionally, a new bus terminal has become operational in Chamba, and the old bus stand there will be repurposed as a car parking facility. A budget of ₹13.59 crore has been approved for constructing a multi-story parking structure in that location.
In Hamirpur, a new bus terminal is planned to be built at a different location, replacing the old one, with ₹70 crore allocated for the project. This proposal has been sent to the Chief Minister’s Office for approval.
Moreover, a new bus terminal is proposed to be built on the Bilaspur Four-Lane at Mandi-Bharari, which is also expected to be finalized within this year.
