Under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), Himachal Pradesh saw the approval of 2,683 kilometers of rural roads and 22 bridges across 254 road projects during the financial year 2023-24.

Union Minister for Road Transport and National Highways, Nitin Gadkari, shared these details in Parliament while responding to a query from Kangra-Chamba MP Dr. Rajeev Bhardwaj.

Among the districts, Kangra received the highest share, with 502 kilometers of roads and five bridges across 55 projects. In contrast, Lahaul-Spiti saw approval for only 64 kilometers of roads under seven projects, reflecting disparities in project allocation.

Other notable approvals include:

  • Bilaspur: 185 km (19 projects)
  • Chamba: 167 km + 1 bridge (17 projects)
  • Hamirpur: 178 km (21 projects)
  • Kullu: 103 km + 1 bridge (10 projects)
  • Mandi: 322 km (23 projects)
  • Shimla: 549 km (46 projects)
  • Sirmaur: 163 km (12 projects)
  • Solan: 291 km + 4 bridges (25 projects)
  • Una: 159 km + 11 bridges (19 projects)

The PMGSY initiative continues to be a key driver of rural connectivity in Himachal Pradesh, though the uneven distribution of projects has sparked discussions on regional priorities and infrastructure needs.
