Rising Incidents Spark Fear, Residents Demand Urgent Action
Karnal, February 4, 2025 – In a tragic and horrifying incident, a 10-year-old boy, Aditya, was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Shekhpura Khalsa village, under Gharaunda police station limits.
Stray Dog Menace in Karnal
- Karnal city alone has over 15,000 stray dogs, posing a growing threat to residents.
- 20-25 dog bite cases are reported daily at the District Civil Hospital.
- 70-80 anti-rabies vaccine doses and 2-3 anti-rabies serum injections are administered each day.
- Public places like Karna Stadium, where athletes and locals exercise, have also become unsafe due to aggressive dog packs.
The Tragic Incident
Aditya, the only son of a daily-wage laborer, Dalip, was chasing his kite on the occasion of Basant Panchami when it drifted into a nearby wheat field. As he went to retrieve it, a pack of stray dogs attacked him viciously. His mutilated body was later found by his distraught family and villagers, with dogs still lurking nearby.
“Despite repeated complaints, no concrete action has been taken. We demand stringent steps to address the menace,” said Malak Singh, a local resident.
The boy’s grieving father and the outraged villagers have urged authorities to take immediate action.
Growing Fear & Public Outrage
The rising number of dog attacks in Karnal has left residents terrified. In another recent attack, a five-year-old girl was mauled by a stray dog in Shaktipuram Colony.
Local authorities, despite multiple complaints, have failed to implement effective sterilization and control measures.
Police & Administration Response
Inspector Deepak Kumar, SHO Gharaunda, confirmed the fatal attack, stating that the matter is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the first dose of the anti-rabies vaccine is now being provided 24/7 at the Trauma Centre.
Residents’ Demands
- Immediate sterilization and vaccination of stray dogs.
- Shelters or relocation for aggressive strays.
- Strict action against civic authorities for negligence.
- Better public awareness and emergency response measures.
With the stray dog crisis worsening, residents fear that if swift action is not taken, more innocent lives could be lost.
