Claims Soldiers Are Committing Atrocities Against Women; Allegations of Deliberate Unrest in Bengal
Kolkata | West Bengal
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday leveled serious allegations against the Border Security Force (BSF), claiming they are facilitating the infiltration of Bangladeshis into India, thereby disrupting peace in the state. She alleged that this is part of a “central government agenda” aimed at creating unrest in Bengal.
Speaking after a review meeting with state officials at the Secretariat Nabanna, Banerjee warned:
“If the BSF continues such activities, the TMC will not hesitate to protest against them.”
She added that her government has repeatedly flagged this issue to the Centre.
“We will respect any decision by the Centre, but we are also sending them a strong letter of protest,” she said.
Mamata also accused the BSF of allowing illegal crossings at key borders like Islampur, Sitai, and Chopra, and alleged atrocities against women:
“BSF is meant to stop illegal infiltration. Instead, they’re granting permission to Bangladeshis and blaming the TMC. We won’t tolerate this,” she asserted.
Giriraj Singh Fires Back
Union Minister Giriraj Singh responded sharply, accusing the TMC of hypocrisy:
“West Bengal has become a nursery for Bangladeshi infiltrators. The Bengal government laid out the red carpet for them and is now politicizing the issue.”
He demanded an apology from the TMC, calling the situation “absurd.”
Anirban Ganguly Criticizes Mamata’s Stance on BSF
BJP leader Anirban Ganguly echoed Singh’s sentiments, accusing Banerjee of disrespecting the BSF.
“Mamata Banerjee is the only leader who has openly criticized and mistreated the BSF,” he said.
He claimed that the TMC leadership is upset because the BSF has been cracking down on illegal activities such as drug trafficking and cattle smuggling.
“Given the current turmoil in Bangladesh, Mamata should collaborate with the BSF instead of opposing them,” Ganguly added.
Abhishek Banerjee Takes Aim at BJP
TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee countered the BJP, accusing them of ignoring the persecution of minorities in Bangladesh while relentlessly targeting the Bengal government.
“If BJP leaders are truly concerned about the plight of minorities in Bangladesh, why don’t they pressure the Modi government to take concrete action?”
He urged the people of Bengal to maintain peace and harmony amid the political turmoil:
“Our state needs unity, not divisive politics,” Abhishek said, emphasizing the importance of stability.
