NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the Punjab government about the potential uncertainty created when one ruling party enacts a law for a university, only for it to be repealed by a successor government.
A bench comprising Justices B R Gavai and K V Viswanathan raised this issue during a hearing on a plea challenging the Punjab and Haryana High Court’s decision to dismiss a petition against the Khalsa University (Repeal) Act, 2017.
“Will there not be uncertainty if one political party enacts a law for a university, and another political party, when in power, repeals it?” the bench asked the Punjab government’s counsel.
