Ludhiana: Gurpreet Gogi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA from Ludhiana West, tragically died on Friday night due to a gunshot wound under suspicious circumstances. The incident occurred when Gogi was cleaning his licensed pistol at home, and it accidentally fired, hitting his head.
Family members and security personnel rushed to his room upon hearing the gunshot, finding him lying in a pool of blood. He was immediately rushed to Dayanand Medical Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Gogi had returned home after attending a meeting with Rajya Sabha MP Sant Balveer Singh Sichewal and other events. Police confirmed the pistol involved was a .25 bore.
Gogi had won the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, defeating Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu. He had previously been with Congress for 23 years and served in various positions, including as the chairman of PSIEC.
The news of his sudden death has caused a wave of mourning in the political community. Leaders from AAP and other political parties have expressed their condolences, calling it a significant loss.
