Imphal, February 4, 2025: In a major crackdown on insurgent activities, security forces arrested nine militants from different banned outfits across Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching, and Thoubal districts, Manipur Police confirmed on Tuesday.
Militant Arrests and Recoveries
- Five members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) were apprehended in Mantripukhri Thakurbari, Imphal East, on Monday. Security forces recovered:
- 1 9mm pistol with a magazine
- 11 live rounds of ammunition
- 2 hand grenades
- 3 mobile phones
- A militant of the Kangleipak Communist Party (MC) Progressive, involved in extortion, was arrested from Singjamei Thokchom Leikai, Imphal West.
- A cadre of the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), also involved in extortion, was arrested in Irengband Hawairou, Kakching.
- A PREPAK (Pro) militant was nabbed in Yairipok Bazar, Thoubal.
- On Sunday, an active cadre of Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup was arrested from Wabagai Bazar, Kakching, for extortion-related activities.
Massive Arms and Ammunition Seizure
Security forces also recovered a huge cache of weapons and explosives from Bishnupur and Tengnoupal districts:
Monday (Bishnupur, near Khuga River)
- 1 AK-47 rifle with a magazine
- 1 2-inch mortar
- 2 SMG carbines
- 2 country-made 9mm pistols with magazines
- 3 hand grenades
- 2 IEDs
- 20 gelatine sticks
- 5 9mm live rounds
Monday (Imphal West, Khuyathong Crossing)
- 1 9mm pistol with a magazine
Sunday (Tengnoupal, Duthang Laiching Track)
- 1 AK-47 rifle with a magazine
- 1 9mm pistol with a magazine
- 1 .303 rifle
- 1 country-made 12-bore rifle with ammunition
The crackdown is part of heightened security operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Manipur’s hill and valley districts. Officials confirmed that search operations and area domination patrols will continue in the coming days to neutralize militant activities and ensure stability in the region.
