Mumbai: Following the recent announcement of the Maharashtra Assembly elections, the Mahayuti alliance has finalized its seat-sharing arrangement for Mumbai. In a significant development, Ajit Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has secured three constituencies: Anushakti Nagar, Bandra East, and Shivaji Mankhurd.
The current distribution of seats among the alliance members is as follows:
- Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP): 18 seats
- Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction): 15 seats
- Nationalist Congress Party (NCP): 3 seats
Discussions regarding seat-sharing arrangements across the rest of the state are still ongoing, particularly with the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). Reports suggest that some BJP leaders may contest using the clock symbol in specific regions.
Notably, in the Tasgaon-Kavathe Mahankal constituency of Sangli district, Prabhakar Patil, son of former MP Sanjay Kakade, will face off against Rohit Patil. In the Walwa constituency, BJP’s Nishikant Patil is set to compete against NCP’s Ajit Pawar.
The nomination process is set to commence on October 22, with the final date for submission on October 29.
Additionally, the BJP is preparing to release its first candidate list, which may include cuts for around two dozen sitting MLAs. The party has devised a strategy to address potential dissent and manage candidate announcements, with expectations for the list to be unveiled within the next two days. A senior BJP leader confirmed to Lokmat that the announcement would occur shortly, despite initial delays.
