Gulmarg, Feb 3: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS), Jammu & Kashmir, successfully concluded its second skiing course for girls at Gulmarg, reaffirming its dedication to promoting winter sports in the region.
The vibrant closing ceremony saw the participation of 50 young girl skiers from different districts of J&K. Director General of YSS, Rajinder Singh Tara, graced the event and expressed satisfaction with the department’s efforts in providing government school students with exposure to world-class skiing facilities.
“A Step Towards Winter Sports Growth”
Speaking at the event, DG Tara highlighted the importance of such initiatives, particularly for students from underprivileged backgrounds. “It is inspiring to see these young athletes honing their skills on the internationally renowned slopes of Gulmarg. Our aim is to create more opportunities for them in the field of winter sports,” he said.
Encouraged by the success of the program, he announced plans to extend skiing courses to Sonamarg, Pahalgam, and Yousmarg, aiming to further boost winter tourism and the local economy.
A Festive Conclusion
The closing event featured cultural performances by the girl trainees, adding a festive touch to the celebration. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from Hilal Ahmed Shah, Incharge of Gulmarg Hutments, who appreciated the DG’s presence and motivational words.
With such initiatives, YSS continues to pave the way for the growth of winter sports in Jammu & Kashmir, inspiring the next generation of athletes.
