Jammu, Feb 3 – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has urged National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets from Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh to become role models in their communities and take an active stand against drug abuse. Addressing a gathering of cadets in Jammu, he emphasized the crucial role NCC plays in shaping young minds, instilling discipline, and fostering a sense of service to the nation.
Encouraging cadets to channel their training towards social causes, Abdullah stated, “Your influence is profound. If you see a friend struggling with addiction, extend a helping hand. Guide them towards a better path.” He aligned this message with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat,’ calling on the cadets to be torchbearers of this initiative.
The chief minister also praised the exceptional representation of J&K and Ladakh cadets during the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi, where a local girl cadet led the all-women NCC contingent. “This is no small achievement,” he remarked. “The sight of a cadet from Jammu and Kashmir commanding a national contingent was a proud moment, watched by millions across the world.”
Reflecting on his own experience as an NCC cadet during his school days, Abdullah spoke about the lifelong lessons of leadership and teamwork instilled by the corps. He acknowledged the increasing academic pressures on students today but lauded the cadets for their dedication. “In a time when 100% cut-offs are the norm in some colleges, you have still chosen to embrace the values of discipline, leadership, and service. That speaks volumes about your character.”
Abdullah also commended the cadets for their cultural performance, which secured a third-place finish among teams from across India. “Your performance was not just about dance or music; it was a tribute to the rich cultural heritage of our land. It showcased the unity and diversity of Jammu and Kashmir on a national platform,” he said.
He urged the cadets to take these lessons beyond their NCC journey, emphasizing the importance of camaraderie, empathy, and national unity. “These friendships will stay with you for life, standing as a support system through challenges. Remember, the true essence of serving the nation lies in uplifting others.”
With this call to action, Abdullah reinforced the vital role of youth in shaping a better future for Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh.
