Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that Himachal Pradesh will generate 72 MW of solar power by December 2025 through seven upcoming projects. The Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (HPPCL) has already begun construction on two projects in Una district— a 12 MW plant at Gondpur Bulla and an 11 MW plant at Lamlahri Uparli.

In Solan district, three solar power projects are underway, including a 13 MW project in Saned (Nalagarh), an 8 MW project in Bara Barot, and another 13 MW project in Dabhota Majra. Additionally, tenders have been initiated for a 9 MW project, Dabhota One, and a 6 MW solar project at Tihra Khas in Una district, both of which will begin construction soon.

The state government is actively working to make Himachal Pradesh the first ‘Green Energy’ state by 2026. Surveys for eight more projects, with a combined capacity of 325 MW, are in progress. Once the detailed project reports (DPRs) are finalized, construction will commence.

The Chief Minister highlighted the environmental and economic benefits of renewable energy, stating that these initiatives will reduce carbon emissions, support sustainability, and provide long-term energy security.

In April 2024, a 32 MW solar power plant in Pekhubela, Una district, was dedicated to the public, generating 48 million units of electricity and earning ₹14 crore in revenue by January 2025. Another 5 MW solar project in Bhanjal began operations in November 2024, while a 10 MW project in Aghlaur is set to be completed this month.

The government is also focusing on green hydrogen energy. A 1 MW green hydrogen project has begun construction in Nalagarh (Solan district) in collaboration with Oil India Limited, under a signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

With these initiatives, Himachal Pradesh is moving towards becoming a leader in green energy and climate-friendly development.
