Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that Himachal Pradesh is advancing eco-tourism initiatives to provide visitors with immersive wilderness experiences while preserving natural resources. By involving local communities, the government aims to generate employment and promote environmental awareness.
Aligned with amendments to the Forest Conservation Act, 2023, the state’s updated Eco-Tourism Policy encourages community-driven eco-tourism and sustainable practices. To streamline efforts, a centralized coordination mechanism is in place, ensuring uniform eco-tourism activities across the state.
With approximately 2 crore annual visitors drawn to Himachal’s landscapes, CM Sukhu emphasized that eco-tourism will strengthen the state’s economy, support conservation, and enhance visitor experiences through activities like trekking, camping, and bird watching. New eco-tourism sites and routes are also being developed to attract more tourists and provide safer, eco-friendly experiences.
