Voters Can Use Alternative Identity Cards if Voter Card is Unavailable

Chandigarh, February 27 – Haryana State Election Commissioner Sh. Dhanpat Singh has urged citizens to participate in large numbers in the upcoming urban local body elections scheduled for March 2. Only those individuals whose names are included in the voter list of the respective Municipal Corporation, Municipal Council, or Municipality will be eligible to cast their votes.

Sh. Dhanpat Singh emphasized that voters who do not possess a voter card can still exercise their voting rights by presenting alternative identity documents. These include a passport, driving license, PAN card, service identity card issued by central or state government offices, public sector undertakings, or local bodies, as well as photo identity cards issued by banks or post offices. Other valid documents include a freedom fighter photo identity card, SC/ST/OBC certificate with a photo issued by a competent authority, a physical disability certificate with a photo, an arms license with a photo, an MGNREGA card, property documents with a photo, pension documents such as a pension book or pension payment order, an ex-widow dependent certificate, an old age pension order, a widow pension order with a photo, a health insurance scheme smart card, a ration card, and an Aadhaar card issued by UIDAI.

The Election Commissioner reiterated the importance of voter participation in strengthening democracy and encouraged citizens to come forward and cast their votes responsibly.
