By-elections for Mayor, Municipal Council Presidents, and Ward Members to be Held Simultaneously
Chandigarh, February 27: Haryana is set to hold elections for seven municipal corporations, four municipal councils, and 21 municipalities on March 2, as announced by Haryana State Election Commissioner Sh. Dhanpat Singh. Additionally, by-elections for key municipal posts, including two mayoral positions, one municipal council president, two municipality presidents, and ward members in three municipal councils, will also take place on the same day. Meanwhile, voting for the election of Mayor and ward members of the Panipat Municipal Corporation is scheduled for March 9.
EVMs to Be Used in All Elections
To ensure a smooth electoral process, the State Election Commission will deploy Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) across all polling stations. In the elections for seven major municipal corporations—Faridabad, Gurugram, Manesar, Hisar, Karnal, Panipat, Rohtak, and Yamunanagar—two separate EVMs will be installed at each polling station, one for the Mayor and another for Ward Members.
For the by-elections, one EVM per polling station will be used in the elections for:
- Mayor in Ambala and Sonipat Municipal Corporations
- President in Sohna Municipal Council
- President in Asandh and Ismailabad Municipalities
- Ward members in three municipalities – Ward No. 14 of Safidon, Ward No. 5 of Taraori, and Ward No. 11 of Ladwa
Voting Arrangements for Municipal Councils and Municipalities
In the elections for four municipal councils—Ambala Sadar, Pataudi-Jatauli Mandi, Thanesar, and Sirsa—as well as 21 municipalities, each polling station will have two EVMs, ensuring a transparent voting process for both Presidents and Ward Members.
The municipalities where elections will be held include Barada, Bawani Khera, Loharu, Siwani, Jakhal Mandi, Farrukh Nagar, Narnaund, Beri, Julana, Kalayat, Siwan, Pundri, Indri, Nilokheri, Ateli Mandi, Kanina, Tawadu, Hathin, Kalanaur, Kharkhoda, and Radaur.
For the Panipat Municipal Corporation elections on March 9, two EVMs per polling station will be deployed—one for the Mayor’s election and another for Ward Members.
