Chandigarh: Haryana’s Energy, Transport, and Labor Minister Anil Vij has once again rejected Punjab’s claim over Chandigarh, delivering a sharp counterattack. He made it clear that “Chandigarh can only belong to Punjab if the Hindi-speaking region is transferred to Haryana and the SYL (Satluj Yamuna Link) water is given to Haryana. Otherwise, as much as Chandigarh belongs to them (Punjab), it belongs equally to us (Haryana).”
In his statement, Vij sought to clear Punjab’s misconceptions and took a jibe at Punjab’s leaders, referring to historical context to make his point.
Vij Takes a Jibe at Bhupinder Singh Hooda
Vij also took a dig at former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s comment during the assembly elections where he referred to the “victory of the system.” Vij mocked this statement, saying, “The people cut their (Congress’s) kite, and now they can’t handle it.” He further added that Hooda and his party were unable to digest their defeat, which is why they are making such illogical remarks.
Vij’s remarks come amidst ongoing discussions over Chandigarh’s status and other political issues between Haryana and Punjab. His comments reiterate Haryana’s stance on the issue, emphasizing the state’s rights and historical claims over Chandigarh.
