The BJP is set to elevate its Delhi Assembly campaign with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Parivartan Rally” on Sunday at Japanese Park in Rohini, northwest Delhi. Party leaders have hinted at “major announcements” for Delhi that could significantly impact the election campaign.
Ahead of the Delhi polls next month, the BJP has vowed to continue the AAP government’s “free” schemes, claiming that if elected, they will match Arvind Kejriwal’s promises, including the Rs 2,100 monthly payment for women and an Rs 18,000 honorarium for priests and granthis.
BJP officials expect Modi’s rally to bring “big-ticket” announcements that could alter the course of the election. These include the possibility of increasing free electricity units and matching Kejriwal’s Rs 2,100 payment under the Mahila Samman Yojana.
The party’s campaign is also set to gain momentum with Modi’s inauguration of various development projects in Delhi. On Friday, Modi will unveil 1,675 flats for JJ colonies residents and launch two urban redevelopment projects in Ashok Vihar. He will also lay the foundation for Veer Savarkar College in Roshanpura, Najafgarh, which will include academic blocks in East Delhi and Dwarka.
The Delhi Assembly election is expected in mid-February, with the BJP looking to reclaim power after being out of office since 1998. The BJP’s planned ‘Parivartan Yatra,’ originally scheduled for mid-November, was postponed due to the Parliament session.
