New Delhi: Satyendar Jain, former Delhi minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, was released from Tihar Jail on Friday evening following bail granted by a local court in a money laundering case. Jain, who was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) two years ago, was greeted by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and other AAP leaders upon his release. Jain had been granted interim bail in May 2023 due to medical reasons, but he returned to jail after his regular bail was denied by the Supreme Court in March 2024.
The court cited the prolonged trial and Jain’s 18-month incarceration as reasons for granting bail, emphasizing his right to liberty under Article 21 of the Constitution. Jain is the third AAP leader to be granted bail recently, following similar decisions for Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in other cases.
