Kejriwal Sparks Controversy Over Yamuna Water, Dares Rivals
In a heated political showdown ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal has challenged leaders from the BJP and Congress to drink water from the Yamuna River to prove its safety. Holding up bottles of river water at a press conference, Kejriwal accused the opposition of playing politics while endangering public health.
His remarks came after the Election Commission of India (ECI) issued a notice, asking him not to mix the issue of increased ammonia levels in Yamuna with his claim of the river being “poisoned.” The EC has given Kejriwal another chance to present factual evidence regarding his allegations against the Haryana government.
Kejriwal Attacks Election Commission, Calls It Politically Motivated
Addressing the media, Kejriwal launched a scathing attack on Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, alleging that the Election Commission was acting in favor of the ruling party.
“I say this with respect, but the ECI is blind to money and blankets being distributed in Delhi. Rajiv Kumar is playing politics because he wants a post-retirement job. History will not forgive him,” Kejriwal declared.
He further criticized the language used in the EC’s notice regarding his Yamuna poisoning statement, calling it biased and politically motivated.
“I will not let the people of Delhi drink poisonous water as long as I am alive,” he asserted, doubling down on his allegations.
AAP’s 7 Guarantees for Government Residential Staff
Shifting focus to governance, Kejriwal announced seven guarantees for government residential staff, aimed at improving their working conditions.
Key announcements included:
- A servant registration portal, allowing job seekers and employers to connect.
- A personal staff card, similar to the government employee ID, providing job security.
- Staff hostels to provide accommodation for workers in government residences.
In a significant political move, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Shatrughan Sinha are expected to join AAP rallies this weekend to appeal to Purvanchali voters in Delhi. This comes as AAP’s key INDIA bloc ally, Congress, is contesting the elections separately.
PM Modi and Rahul Gandhi Take Jabs at Kejriwal
With elections approaching, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi intensified their attacks on AAP and Kejriwal.
PM Modi criticized the Delhi government for its lack of progress, pointing out that only 14 laws were passed in the last five years, five of which focused on raising MLA salaries.
Rahul Gandhi, on the other hand, mocked Kejriwal’s promise to clean the Yamuna, challenging him to take a dip in the river and drink its water.
Kejriwal Sends Yamuna Water to BJP, Congress Leaders
Escalating the controversy, Kejriwal directly challenged top leaders from BJP and Congress, including Amit Shah, Virendra Sachdeva, Nayab Singh Saini, and Rahul Gandhi, to drink the bottled Yamuna water.
“This is 7 PPM ammonia water, with chlorine mixed in. BJP and Congress have joined hands, putting Delhiites’ health at risk. If they have the courage, they should drink this water on live TV,” he stated.
Kejriwal Exposes Alleged Servant Quarter Scam
In another revelation, Kejriwal accused MPs and MLAs of illegally renting out servant quarters in government housing.
“Every MP and MLA’s residence has a servant quarter meant for staff. But 70-80% of workers do not receive salaries; instead, they are told to work for free in exchange for a place to stay. Many politicians have even put servant quarters on rent, which is a criminal offense,” he claimed.
He further added that when government officials get transferred, their staff lose both their jobs and homes, leading to a life of instability.
Election Commission Responds to Yamuna Poisoning Allegations
The Election Commission has asked Kejriwal to provide concrete evidence regarding his claim that the Haryana government is deliberately poisoning the Yamuna.
The EC has demanded:
- Specific proof of poisoning, including details on the type, quantity, and method used.
- Reports from Delhi Jal Board engineers on how they detected the contamination.
- Exact locations where the contamination was found.
Kejriwal has been asked to submit this evidence by Friday at 11 AM, failing which the Election Commission will take further action.
Final Showdown Ahead of Delhi Elections 2025
With the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, political tensions continue to rise. AAP, BJP, and Congress are locked in a fierce battle, each trying to sway voters with promises and accusations.
As Kejriwal’s bold challenges and governance claims take center stage, the question remains: Will Delhi voters be convinced, or will the opposition’s attacks weaken AAP’s stronghold?
