New Delhi: In a development just a day before the Delhi Assembly elections, police filed three separate First Information Reports (FIRs) in the Kalkaji area on Tuesday for alleged violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). Among the FIRs, one was against Chief Minister Atishi, another against members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and a third against two BJP leaders. According to the police, Atishi was seen with her AAP supporters, reportedly obstructing an official from performing his duties on Fateh Singh Marg.
The police also filed an FIR against two AAP members for allegedly assaulting a police constable. In a separate FIR, police registered a case against Manish Bidhuri, a relative of BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri, and another individual, Ravi Deyma, for violating the MCC. AAP filed the complaint, and Atishi tweeted that Manish is Ramesh Bidhuri’s nephew. She claimed that Manish was spotted late on Monday night roaming in Kalkaji, although he is not a voter in the area. The police investigation revealed that both Manish Bidhuri and Ravi Deyma were found violating the MCC, and an FIR was filed at the Govindpuri police station.
In another case, police observed a large crowd of AAP workers with around 10 vehicles. Despite repeated requests to disperse, the AAP members violated prohibitory orders and the MCC. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Ravi Kumar Singh, the police acted after a complaint from the flying squad team. The police also mentioned that when they began videographing the incident, AAP workers allegedly assaulted and misbehaved with a head constable, snatched his phone, and injured him.
The police registered a separate FIR in connection with the assault. When asked if Atishi’s name specifically appeared in the FIR, DCP Singh confirmed that action was taken against everyone present at the scene violating the prohibitory orders. Atishi later criticized the Election Commission over the police FIRs filed against her.
Atishi alleged that her political rival, BJP candidate Ramesh Bidhuri, and his family members were openly indulging in “hooliganism” in Kalkaji, but no action was taken against them. In response, Ramesh Bidhuri dismissed Atishi’s claims, suggesting that the Chief Minister was anxious about her “imminent defeat.” He added that Atishi should avoid tarnishing the “dignity of the Chief Minister’s office.”
