Kakinada: CPI (M) state Secretary V. Srinivasarao has urged the Andhra Pradesh government to return land designated for Special Economic Zones (SEZs), including the Kakinada SEZ, to the farmers from whom it was acquired. Speaking to the media, Srinivasarao highlighted that the Kakinada SEZ, established with an area of ten thousand acres, has seen no industrial development in over fifteen years, despite promises of large-scale employment.
He criticized the lack of progress since the SEZ’s inception during Chandrababu Naidu’s first term as Chief Minister, stating that local communities have been misled regarding employment opportunities. Srinivasarao called on Naidu to fulfill his commitments and take action to attract industries to the SEZs.
The CPI (M) leader also demanded that the state government engage in thorough discussions with trade unions regarding new industrial policies before implementation. He pointed out that although the government announced six new industrial policies promising investments of ₹30 lakh crores and employment for 20 lakh people over the next five years, previous policies have not yielded significant results.
Srinivasarao announced that the CPI (M) will launch a statewide agitation called “Praja Poru” from November 8 to 15, focusing on the issues faced by the people of Andhra Pradesh. The party leaders, including AV Nageswararao and district convenor M. Rajasekhar, were also present at the press conference.
