Trump Faces Legal Woes, Biden Struggles in Latest Polls Ahead of 2024 Presidential Race

As we approach the 2024 US presidential elections, the political landscape is marked by a series of challenges for both former President Donald Trump and the incumbent, President Joe Biden.

Trump’s Legal Entanglements

Former President Trump, a polarizing figure, finds himself ensnared in legal troubles with 91 felony charges and four indictments. These include allegations related to a hush-money payment to an adult film star and the mishandling of classified national defense documents. Notably, the Colorado Supreme Court has removed him from the state’s 2024 ballot under the 14th Amendment, pending his appeal to the US Supreme Court.

Surprisingly, these legal issues haven’t diminished Trump’s support; on the contrary, reports indicate a rise in his popularity. Even his mugshot from Atlanta Jail, sold for millions, contributed to a significant fundraising boost for his campaign.

 Biden’s Struggles and Approval Ratings

President Biden, seeking a second term, faces challenges on multiple fronts. The economy, initially impacted by the Covid pandemic, has shown signs of recovery. However, public perception remains negative, with 81% of registered voters expressing dissatisfaction in a recent survey by The New York Times and Sienna College.

Inflation is a key factor eroding Biden’s support, especially among women, who bear the brunt of rising costs as primary grocery shoppers. Biden’s approval ratings stand at a record low of 37%, attributed to both economic concerns and his handling of international conflicts.

Foreign Policy Challenges

Biden’s stance on supporting Ukraine in its conflict with Russia has become a polarizing issue. Despite providing significant financial aid to Kyiv, support for Ukraine among US citizens is waning, with 41% believing the US is doing too much. The ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict further strains Biden’s support, particularly among Arab Americans.

Trump’s Dominance Among GOP Candidates

While Trump maintains a substantial lead among GOP candidates with over 60% support, potential dark horses are emerging. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley lag significantly behind. Indian-American Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy has unexpectedly risen to the fourth spot, garnering support from unregistered Republican voters and the younger generation.

Poll Numbers and Projections

Recent polls indicate Trump leading Biden significantly in hypothetical matchups, with 47% of registered voters backing Trump and 43% supporting Biden. In crucial swing states carried by Biden in 2020, such as Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania, Trump is leading in hypothetical matchups, posing a concern for the incumbent Democrat.

As the 2024 presidential race intensifies, both Trump and Biden engage in rigorous campaigning. Trump relies on his massive support on polarizing issues, despite legal challenges, while Biden aims to regain support amid economic concerns and global conflicts.

With less than a year until the polls, the outcome remains uncertain. The dynamics between these two formidable figures will unfold, and as memories of the January 6 incident linger, the question remains: who will secure victory and enter the White House for the second time?
