Tulip Garden to be thrown open for public from March 23
Srinagar: After being closed to the public for more than two years due to the outbreak of COVID-19, the spectacular Tulip Garden overlooking the Dal Lake in the summer capital will reopen on March 23. This gives local tourism operators hope for a strong start to the season.
With over a million Tulips predicted to bloom this year, most tour-trade players are optimistic that the season will see a significant boost in footfalls.
It should be noted that the Tulip Garden attracts between 1.50 lakh and 2 lakh visitors each season. Domestic and foreign visitors were among those who came to the garden to be mesmerised by the riot of colours that spanned 360 kanals of land.
Because the garden will be open until mid-April, the number of people who visit it is expected to increase.
Tourists from Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, north India, and other southern states are among those who visit the Tulip garden to be mesmerised by the 50 varieties of 1.5 million flowers, including Tulips, scattered over 360 kanals of land, according to the official. In addition, the Tulip Garden is projected to attract a huge number of people.
Every season, a musical festival is held at the garden to attract more visitors. Officials say that the illumination of the Tulip Garden has been a success in attracting tourists to the Tulip Garden during the nighttime hours.
A 15-day musical festival was held at the garden two years ago by Cultural Academy in order to attract more tourists, and visitors could also make purchases from several stalls placed inside the park by JKTDC, Handicrafts Department, and others.
The Tulip Garden has 360 kanals of land, with Tulips as the main crop growing on seven hectares of land. Hyacinths, Narcissus, Daffodils, Muscaria, and Iris are among the bulbous plants grown in the garden, in addition to Tulips. Other tourist attractions include the creation of a water channel and a Japanese ornamental Cherry theme garden, as well as an avenue within the garden.
The Tulip Garden was named one of the “Top five tulip attractions” in the world by the World Tulip Summit Society during its summit held in Canada in 2017.
The Tulip Garden won this award after competing in the 7th World Tulip Summit in Ottawa, Canada’s capital city, against 17 countries, including the United States, Japan, Turkey, Holland, the United Kingdom, and China.
Earlier in 2015, the Tulip Garden was named the world’s second finest Tulip attraction at an event hosted in South Korea by the same organisation.
