BT,MARGAO: In a remarkable display of unity, numerous citizens have come forward to pledge their unwavering support to the residents of Loutolim as they strive to protect their cherished khazan lands from potential harm arising from the proposed new Borim Bridge.
Residents from neighboring villages have also joined forces, standing in solidarity with the people of Loutolim in their fight to safeguard these vital fields.
Peter Dias, a Raia resident, expressed his commitment to the cause, stating, “I am ready to join the agitation if called upon by the Loutolim villagers regarding the land acquisition for the new Borim Bridge. We must stand by our neighbors in their time of need.”
Similarly, Santano Rodrigues, hailing from another nearby village, emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to prioritize the interests of Goans before proceeding with any land acquisition ventures.
Former Minister and ex-MLA Mickky Pacheco have also thrown their support behind the Loutolim villagers. In a statement to the media, Pacheco urged the government to halt the land acquisition proceedings for the new bridge, especially considering its alignment through ecologically sensitive Khazan lands.
Highlighting the inconsistency in agricultural policies that simultaneously endanger valuable agricultural land, Pacheco appealed to the government to strike a balance between development and environmental conservation.
He pointed out that the surge in public protests underscores a communication gap between the government and the people, emphasizing the need for a more inclusive and consultative approach.
