New Delhi: Rekha Singh, the wife of Naib Subedar Deepak Singh of the Bihar Regiment, who was martyred in a bloody clash with Chinese soldiers in Galway Valley, has fulfilled her husband’s dream by becoming a lieutenant in the army. After 7 months of marriage, Rekha Singh, who became Veer Nari, has been selected for the rank of commissioned officer. Before joining the Indian Army, she will undergo a one-year training from May 28 at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai. Martyr Deepak Singh was awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously. While receiving this award from the President, Rekha Singh resolved to tread on the path of service to the nation.
Naib Subedar Deepak Singh of Bihar Regiment was a resident of Farehta village in the Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. Rekha is also a resident of Joganhai village of Raipur Kachurlian block of Rewa district. The two got married on November 30, 2019, but only seven months later, on the night of June 15/16, 2020, Deepak Singh was martyred in a bloody clash with Chinese soldiers in the Galway Valley on the China border. Before marriage, Rekha, who had obtained NCC’s C certificate with MSc, BEd, was working as a teacher in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Sirmaur. After this, in the married life of seven months, Deepak showed Rekha the dream of becoming an officer in the army.
Martyr Deepak Singh was awarded the Vir Chakra posthumously. Rekha Singh resolved to fulfil her husband’s dream while receiving this award from the President on November 24, 2021. He was fully supported by the family members of the maternal and in-laws. Rekha Singh was appointed by the Madhya Pradesh government to the post of education worker, but her desire to join the army remained constant. 29-year-old Rekha Singh took information about this from Rewa District Administration and District Sainik Welfare Office. After this, she went to Noida and took training in preparation for the entrance examination to join the army.
, She left the job of a teacher and appeared for the Service Selection Board (SSB) examination but did not succeed in the first attempt. Despite this, she did not lose courage, but took the exam for the second time to fulfil her husband’s dream and finally she was selected in the army for the rank of lieutenant. Martyr’s wife Rekha Singh told that she has gone to the army to fulfill her husband’s dreams. After completion of medical formalities, one-year of training will be held from 28th May at Officers Training Academy, Chennai. After completion of training, I will serve as a lieutenant in the Indian Army.
Retired soldier Prakash Singh told that Shaheed Deepak Singh was his younger brother. Father Gajraj Singh raised both the children by farming in the village. 17 years ago, elder son Prakash Singh Gaharwar was recruited into the 75 Armed Regiment. It was he who got the younger brother Deepak Singh joining the Medical Corps of the Army after the recruitment of the relation. He and father Gajraj Singh also participated in the program when Deepak Singh was given the Vir Chakra posthumously. On that day, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had dinner with the family members of the martyr. Along with this, the late CDS Vipin Rawat also met everyone in the Tea Party in memory of the martyrs.
