Chandigarh: Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait announced on Thursday that the protesting farmers, led by the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), will observe a ‘Black Friday’ tomorrow in remembrance of a farmer who tragically lost his life at Khanauri Border crossing in Sangrur district, Punjab, amid the ongoing demonstrations.
Tikait disclosed plans for a tractor march on highways towards the national capital, emphasizing, “On February 26, we will take tractors to the highway, and towards the way that goes to Delhi.”
He further detailed the schedule, highlighting a one-day program on February 26 followed by nationwide meetings and a gathering at Ram Leela Ground in Delhi on March 14.
The protesting farmers have temporarily suspended their ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest march for two days to evaluate the situation at the Shambhu border in Haryana.
Expressing concern over the use of paramilitary forces against protestors, Tikait criticized the Central Government’s actions while reiterating the farmers’ commitment to their cause.
In response, Union Agriculture Minister Arjun Munda acknowledged the need for further dialogue and emphasized the government’s dedication to addressing farmers’ concerns.
The ongoing protests, which began on February 13, have seen clashes resulting in injuries among both farmers and police personnel at the Shambhu border near Ambala.
