PM praises efforts of conservationists on World Elephant Day

New Delhi:  On the occasion of World Elephant Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has praised the efforts of elephant conservationists and expressed happiness over the increase in the number of elephants in the last eight years.

The Prime Minister tweeted that on the occasion of World Elephant Day, he reiterates his commitment to protect the elephant. He told that India has about 60 percent of all Asian elephants. The number of protected areas for elephants has increased in the last 08 years. He has appreciated all the people involved in the conservation of elephants for this.

He said that successes in elephant conservation should be viewed in the context of India’s larger efforts to reduce human-animal conflict and the larger efforts of local communities and their traditional knowledge in advancing the environment.
