Dubai, UAE, December 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in several key meetings on the sidelines of the COP-28 Summit in the UAE. He met with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, extending congratulations for the successful hosting of the summit and expressing gratitude for the co-hosting of the Green Climate Programme event. Bilateral ties were extensively reviewed, and discussions included the Israel-Hamas conflict.
PM Modi also extended an invitation to the UAE President for the upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit in India. Meetings with other leaders included Swedish PM Ulf Kristersson, where discussions encompassed defense, research and development, trade and investment, and climate cooperation.
In a meeting with Swiss President Alain Berset, PM Modi explored avenues to deepen the India-Switzerland partnership across various sectors such as trade, investment, technology, health, education, IT, tourism, and people-to-people ties.
Earlier, PM Modi held talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Barbados PM Mia Amor Mottley. During these interactions, topics ranged from global cooperation on climate change challenges to unique vulnerabilities faced by island nations.
PM Modi highlighted the impact of climate change on countries in the Global South during the COP28 Presidency’s session. He emphasized the essential role of climate finance and technology in fulfilling the aspirations of these nations, recognizing their commitment to climate action despite resource constraints.
The COP-28 Summit, taking place from November 28 to December 12 under the UAE Presidency in Dubai, is part of the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This marks PM Modi’s third appearance at the World Climate Action Summit, following his participation in Paris in 2015 and Glasgow in 2021.
