Chandigarh: Punjab state government removed the Inspector General of Police, Senior Superintendent of Police and Superintendent of Police on Saturday, after violent clashes that broke out in Punjab’s Patiala on Friday. Following violence government has temporarily suspended mobile internet services till 6 pm.
After the violent clashes in Patiala, Punjab government has swung into action. On Saturday, on the instructions of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Inspector General of Police (IG), Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) and Superintendent of Police (SP) of Patiala Range were transferred with immediate effect.
Spokesperson of the Chief Minister’s Office said that Mukhwinder Singh Chinna has been made the new IG of Patiala. Deepak Parik and Wazir Singh have been made the new SSP and SP of Patiala respectively.
Meanwhile, Hindu organisations have protested against violence outside the Kali Devi temple in Patiala on Saturday. President of Shiv Sena Hindustan said that the Hindus of Punjab are ready to face the administration and they should not make the mistake of underestimating us on the basis of the numbers .
It may be recalled that four persons were injured in the violence, on Friday, between two groups in Patiala over ‘Anti-Khalistan March’
. The police had to open fire in the air to control the situation. After this the administration had to impose curfew till 6 am, Saturday morning. After the violence, the police arrested Shiv Sena (Bal Thackeray) leader Harish Singla for taking out a procession without permission and allegedly inciting violence.
