Officer’s Misconduct Leads to Market Shutdown in Rewari, Traders Protest

Officer's Misconduct Leads to Market Shutdown in Rewari

Rewari: A shocking incident of misconduct by an official led to a complete shutdown of the market at the prestigious Moti Chowk in Rewari, as local traders protested against the municipal authorities. The incident occurred when a demolition team from the Municipal Corporation, led by a Junior Engineer, was allegedly rude and disrespectful to a local shopkeeper while removing encroachments.

Following this incident, traders gathered at Moti Chowk and staged a sit-in protest, demanding an apology from the officer involved. The Moti Chowk Traders Association called for the market to be closed in solidarity, and they raised slogans against the Municipal Corporation and the government. They declared that the market would not reopen until the official publicly apologized for his behavior.

Political and Administrative Intervention

District BJP President Dr. Vandana Popli and Municipal Corporation Chairperson Poonam Yadav intervened to address the situation. Dr. Popli met with the traders’ leaders to understand the issue and then spoke with the municipal officials. However, the official who had misbehaved did not come forward to apologize. Despite this, the Chairperson of the Municipal Corporation and the in-charge of the demolition team reassured the traders that such an incident would not happen again in the future.

After the assurances, the market was reopened in the afternoon.

Statements from Leaders

Dr. Vandana Popli, District President of the BJP, emphasized that while the Municipal Corporation’s task was to create an encroachment-free city, no official had the right to treat traders disrespectfully. The Municipal Corporation Chairperson, on the other hand, called the incident a “misunderstanding” and condemned the behavior, assuring that action would be taken against the officer involved. She also warned the traders that they should avoid encroachments as the anti-encroachment drive would continue in the city.
