The vehicle’s structural safety, adult occupants, rigidity of the vehicle structure, child occupants’ crash testing, pedestrian safety assessment, bonnet design, active safety assistance technology, six airbag standards, 3.5 seat belts, and seat belt warning system have all been added as new features.
Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that his ministry has already announced the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme, commonly known as the Bharat NCAP.
In response to a query from Congress MP KTS Tulsi on vehicle safety standards in light of the rising number of deaths in car accidents in India, Gadkari remarked that major car manufacturing companies all over the world have safety standards, and that this is also a pressing requirement in India.
“Every year, over five lakh accidents occur in India, with over 1.5 lakh deaths as a result of these incidents,” he stated. “As a result, we made six airbags mandatory for all cars.”
According to the Minister, “compulsory airbags are very vital from a road safety standpoint, which is why we made them required for all automobiles, including the most affordable versions.”
