A list of significant air disasters that have affected the nation since 2010

Kathmandu: The latest aviation accident to strike the Himalayan country of Nepal involved a plane with 72 people on board that crashed in Nepal, killing at least 16 people.

Accidents are a constant problem for Nepal’s air transportation industry. Additionally, the nation is home to some of the world’s trickiest and remotest runways, with approach approaches flanked by massive mountains that present difficulties for even seasoned pilots.

Following is a list of significant air mishaps that have occurred since 2010:

May 29, 2022

22 passengers are killed when a Twin Otter aircraft operated by Tara Air Nepal crashes shortly after departure from Pokhara in western Nepal.

April 14, 2019

Three persons are killed and four others are hurt when a tiny plane near Mount Everest veers off the runway as it takes off and collides with a parked helicopter.

March 12, 2018

At the airport in Kathmandu, an aeroplane from the capital city of Bangladesh, Dhaka, crashes and skids onto a football field before catching fire. The country’s deadliest aviation catastrophe in years claimed the lives of 51 persons.

24 February 2016

All 23 occupants of a Twin Otter operated by Tara Air perish when the plane collides into a hillside in the Myagdi area.

A Nepal Airlines aeroplane crashes in the Arghakhanchi district, killing eighteen people.

28 September 2012

On the outskirts of the Nepali capital, a plane carrying 19 people in the direction of Mount Everest crashes in flames, killing everyone on board.

May 14, 2012

Six people miraculously escape when an Agni Air flight transporting Indian pilgrims crashes not far from the perilous high-altitude airport of Jomsom in northern Nepal, leaving fifteen dead.

25 September 2011

All 19 on board are killed when a tiny plane carrying tourists on a Mount Everest sightseeing excursion crashes into a hillside close to Kathmandu.

15 December 2010

A passenger jet carrying 22 people crashed in eastern Nepal, killing all of the occupants including the crew. Bhutanese pilgrims make up the majority of the victims.

24 August 2010

All 14 on board were killed when a small Agni Air plane crashed in poor weather close to Kathmandu.
