New Delhi: National Commission for Women has launched an Anti-Trafficking Cell on Saturday to deal with the cases of human trafficking. Its objective is to improve the capacity building, training of anti-trafficking units and increase the accountability of law enforcement agencies along with increasing awareness among women and girls.
According to the National Commission for Women, the cell has been set up with the objective of raising awareness among law enforcement officers and facilitating their capacity building. This cell will organize gender sensitization training and workshops for police officers at the regional, state and district levels.
Commission Chairperson Rekha Sharma pointed out that some of the major issues faced in dealing with trafficking cases include lack of rehabilitation for victims and insensitive attitude towards trafficking survivors and their families. Therefore, the cell will improve the monitoring mechanism and encourage government agencies for prevention of trafficking and rehabilitation of victims.
He informed that this cell will help in the rehabilitation of the victims by providing need-based training to those rescued from trafficking.
