New Delhi: Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, will inaugurate a special Railway Coach dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Darshan, Rajghat, on 11th September 2024. This unique exhibit, donated by the Ministry of Railways, is a carefully restored railway coach from the time of Mahatma Gandhi, symbolizing the historic train journeys that played a pivotal role in his mission to unite India and advocate for justice and equality.
Mahatma Gandhi’s early train travels across India in Third Class Railway Compartments were instrumental in shaping his understanding of the nation. These journeys allowed him to interact with people from diverse backgrounds, helping him develop his philosophies of truth, non-violence, and social justice. Gandhi’s train rides enabled him to witness firsthand the struggles of ordinary Indians, which fueled his resolve to fight against British colonial oppression and promote unity among the people.
The restored coach at Gandhi Darshan offers an immersive experience with sculptures and exhibits that bring to life Gandhi’s impactful rail journeys and interactions with fellow passengers. This symbolic tribute is designed to educate visitors about the significance of Gandhi’s train travels in his larger vision for an inclusive, united India. The inauguration of this exhibit serves as a reminder of the power of simple experiences in shaping profound philosophies and movements.
