Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Human Rights Commission has sent show-cause notices to former state minister Jitendra Awhad and three police officers in connection with the abduction and thrashing of a civil engineer. In this notice, Awhad and the three police officers have been ordered to record their statements.

According to the information, in the year 2020, an objectionable post was made against Jitendra Awhad on social media by Anant Karmuse, a civil engineer by profession. It is alleged that Awhad’s supporters forcibly took the engineer to Awhad’s house, and that Awhad beat Kurmuse. The complaint in this case was lodged by Kurmuse at the police station, on which Awhad was arrested by Thane police on October 14, 2021. Awhad was later released on bail by a Thane court.

In this case, Kurmuse had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking a CBI inquiry into the matter, but the High Court rejected the petition. Now, in this case, the State Human Rights Commission has sent notices to three police officers along with Awhad and ordered them to record their statements.
