Nagpur: The Maharashtra Government is planning for effective disposal of fly ash generated by the power plants. The fly ash of power plants has become a problem not only for villagers around the power generation plants, but also causing environmental pollution. As its use in various forms is not possible at local level transporting it to other places is under consideration. This was stated by Energy Minister Dr Nitin Raut.

Dr Raut said that arrangements for smooth transport of coal to power station, has been done. Some passenger trains have been cancelled for fast movement of the coal transporting trains.

Referring to disposal of fly ash, Dr Raut said that the ash has been promoted to be used in brick kilns, construction work of buildings and roads and to a small extent as fertilizer.

As the coal transport has been facilitated, the empty wagons or coal containers can be used for transporting fly ash after downloading the coal at power stations. The idea is an infancy level only and can be considered after discussion with the experts, Dr Raut said.
