In a significant step towards fostering environmental consciousness, Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais inaugurated the ‘Environmental Sustainability Summit’ today at the Y.B. Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai. The summit, organized by the Phoenix Foundation in collaboration with various governmental and non-governmental bodies including the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Government of Maharashtra, ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan,’ MIDC, MPCB, CIDCO, and others, aims to delve into the theme of ‘Harnessing Bamboo Potential for a Sustainable Tomorrow.’
The event kicked off with Governor Bais touring an exhibition showcasing various bamboo products, underlining the versatility and potential of this eco-friendly resource. The summit also featured a panel discussion, where experts and thought leaders from diverse fields shared insights into sustainable practices.
Chairman of the State Agricultural Prices Commission, Pasha Patel, Principal Secretary of the Department of Environment and Climate Change, Praveen Darade, and Director General of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), Dr. Vibha Dhawan, were among the distinguished speakers. Hemendra Kothari, the Founder-Trustee of the ‘Wildlife Conservation Trust,’ and Nand Kumar, MGNREGA Mission DG, also contributed their perspectives on the crucial subject of environmental sustainability.
