Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved several significant proposals on Tuesday, including the conservation of the Kshipra River in Ujjain and an increase in the height of the Shilarkhedi reservoir. The Cabinet sanctioned Rs. 614 crore for this project to ensure sustained water flow in the Kshipra River.
Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya highlighted the project’s importance, noting that raising the Shilarkhedi reservoir’s height will address growing farmer demands for increased water storage. This enhancement is expected to benefit irrigation for farmers across 65 villages.
Additionally, the Cabinet decided to restructure the management of boards and corporations by appointing cabinet ministers to head them, a shift from the current practice of bureaucratic leadership.
The Cabinet also moved to revive the Bidi industry in the state, which is crucial for the income of Tribals who collect Tendu Patta. The initiative aims to reduce the dependence on other states, such as West Bengal, for Bidi production. Officials have been instructed to develop a comprehensive plan for this revival.
In celebration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 74th birthday on September 17, the government will launch the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign. This cleanliness drive will run from September 17 to October 2, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, and will involve awareness activities across social and religious places, government offices, educational institutions, and local bodies.
