Bhopal: Congress leader Kamal Nath on Thursday tendered his resignation as the Leader of Opposition in Madhya Pradesh Assembly but will continue as the MPCC president.
Nath is said to have written to Congress president Sonia Gandhi a letter two months ago requesting the same.
KC Venugopal, the party’s general secretary, issued a letter on Thursday stating that his resignation had been accepted and that Govind Singh, a seven-time MLA, had been appointed as the new CLP leader.
He had already decided to resign from one of the two positions but the party had asked him to stay on, Nath said.
The BJP has been harrowing Kamal Nath for the past few days for holding dual posts.
