India keeping tab of Chinese moves along border: MEA

New Delhi: India closely monitors developments along its border areas, including Chinese infrastructure construction in the eastern Ladakh sector.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi made the remarks in response to an American military commander’s remarks that some of China’s defence infrastructure was being built near its border with India in Ladakh as alarming.

As recent events have clearly demonstrated, the government is committed to and takes all adequate and appropriate measures to safeguard territorial integrity and sovereignty, Bagchi said at a press conference.

He stated that the Indian government has taken numerous measures in recent years to develop infrastructure along India’s border areas, not only to meet India’s strategic and security needs but also to facilitate the economic development of the areas.

US Army’s Pacific Commanding General Charles A Flynn on Wednesday talked about China’s infrastructure development along its borders with India in the Ladakh sector, calling it eye-opening.

In terms of the current situation (in eastern Ladakh), we have maintained continuous communication with the Chinese side, both diplomatic and military channels, Bagchi said.

He stated that India will continue to work with the Chinese to resolve the remaining issues in eastern Ladakh.
