Jammu: Following the formation of a new government in Jammu and Kashmir, there has been a noticeable increase in terrorist attacks in the region. Former DGP SP Vaid has attributed this surge in violence to Pakistan, suggesting that the country is struggling to accept the concept of “New Kashmir.” Vaid stated that the recent terrorist incidents are an attempt by Pakistan’s deep state to escalate violence and create challenges for the new government, especially after successful elections where 60% voter turnout was recorded in the Lok Sabha elections and 65% in the assembly elections. He emphasized that Pakistan, which lacks democracy, cannot tolerate the freedom, development, and democratic progress witnessed in Jammu and Kashmir.
Vaid pointed out that social media has played a significant role in showcasing the progress in the region, highlighting the presence of airports, IITs, and numerous medical colleges. In contrast, he noted that areas in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) do not have even a single airport. This disparity makes the deep state in Pakistan feel threatened, prompting them to undertake such violent actions.
Before the elections, there was a sudden spike in attacks in Jammu, particularly targeting army vehicles in Rajouri and Poonch after the Modi government came to power. The number of casualties has risen from around 30-35 to approximately 50. Notably, there was an attack on pilgrims just as the Modi government was set to take oath for its third term, followed by incidents in Doda, Kathua, Hiranagar, and Udhampur. Reports of involvement by Pakistani army personnel began to emerge, leading the Indian government to convene meetings with the army, intelligence agencies, and local security forces. Subsequently, the situation was brought under control.
SP Vaid further noted that with the establishment of the new government in Jammu and Kashmir, there has been an uptick in incidents in tourist areas like Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Avantipora. Certain groups have also attempted infiltration from regions such as Dangdhar and Keran. Pakistan is reportedly aiming to disrupt the development projects initiated by the Modi government in Jammu and Kashmir, targeting these initiatives by attacking laborers involved in such projects. This, according to Vaid, is a direct response to Pakistan’s inability to accept the transformative vision of “New Kashmir,” as they seek to halt progress and development in the Region.
