BT,Chandigarh: Haryana’s Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar, extended his congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for introducing the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, emphasizing that this step is truly commendable. He expressed his belief that the passage of this bill would significantly advance women’s empowerment in society.

Earlier today, Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal presented the Women Reservation Bill in the inaugural Lok Sabha session held in the new Parliament building. This important legislation, titled “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam,” aims at strengthening women’s empowerment. It proposes to amend Article 239AA of the Constitution to reserve 33 percent of seats for women in the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, as well as Article 330A for the reservation of seats for SC/ST in the House of the People.

Arjun Meghwal also highlighted that once the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” is ratified, the number of seats allocated for women in the Lok Sabha will increase to 181.

In an appeal to members of the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged unanimous support for the “Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam” when it is presented in the House, underlining the importance of women’s participation in policy-making. He assured that the Central Government is dedicated to enacting this bill into law.

PM Modi remarked in Rajya Sabha, “Today, a bill has been introduced in the Lok Sabha. After deliberation, it will also be presented here. Today, we take a significant step toward women’s empowerment.”

It’s worth noting that the Women’s Reservation Bill was previously passed by the Rajya Sabha in 2010 but wasn’t taken up in the Lok Sabha, ultimately lapsing in the lower House of Parliament.
