General Manoj Pande appoints as new Indian Army Chief of Staff

New Delhi: Following the retirement of General Manoj Mukund Naravane after 42 years of service, General Manoj Pande assumed command of the Indian Army on Saturday.

Before being named Army Chief, Gen Pande served as Vice Chief of Staff. He was the first Corps of Engineers officer to command the force.

Gen Pande was commissioned into the Indian Army’s Corps of Engineers (The Bombay Sappers) on December 24, 1982, after being born on May 6, 1962.

He has held a variety of command, staff, and instructional positions over the course of his distinguished 39-year career

He is a National Defence Academy graduate who has also attended Staff College in Camberley, UK, Army War College in Mhow, and National Defence College in New Delhi.

Gen Pande has been awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, and Vishisht Seva Medal for his distinguished service.
