For triple murder, Ex-UP MP, 7 others sentenced to lifer after 27 years

Jaunpur: In a 27-year-old triple murder case, a court in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, sentenced former Machlishahr MP Umakant Yadav to life in prison on Monday. Seven others in the case have also received life sentences.

The court also fined the former MP Rs 5 lakh. The case began in February 1995, when constables Ajay Singh, Lallan Singh, and another person were killed in an attempt to free Raj Kumar Yadav from the Shahganj Government Railway Police detention in Jaunpur.

The government lawyer said that in February 1995, Umakant Yadav arrived at the GRP post equipped with a rifle and a handgun. Umakant Yadav forced his way inside the lockup to liberate Raj Kumar Yadav. He started firing, killing one person in addition to Ajay and Lallan Singh.
