Delhi Police questions Bihar youth in Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video case

Delhi: Officials revealed on Wednesday that Delhi Police have interrogated a 19-year-old youth from Bihar in connection with a widely circulated deepfake video featuring actor Rashmika Mandanna. The police suspect the youth initially uploaded the video on his social media platform before sharing it extensively on other platforms.

 

Issued a notice to join the probe, the youth is under scrutiny as the video first appeared on social media from his account, according to a senior officer. On November 10, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act at the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell.

 

Despite the FIR, no arrests have been made in the case as of Tuesday. The youth claimed to have downloaded the video from an Instagram account, but police are conducting further interrogation. Hailing from Bihar, he was summoned to appear before the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations Unit, where he was requested to bring the mobile phone allegedly used to upload the video.

 

Following the FIR, the unit reached out to Meta to obtain the URL and other details for identifying the accused.
