New Delhi: A public interest litigation (PIL) seeking action against political leaders Rahul Gandhi, Arvind Kejriwal, and Akhilesh Yadav for allegedly making false statements detrimental to India’s image and credibility has been dismissed by the Delhi High Court.
The PIL, which urged the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and the Election Commission of India (ECI) to investigate and prosecute the leaders for misleading remarks, was rejected by Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora.
The court emphasized the wisdom of voters, stating, “Don’t underestimate the wisdom of the voter. They know who is speaking the truth and who is not sailing the truth. Don’t involve us in this political thicket.”
The plea also sought the removal of alleged false statements from electronic and social media platforms.
Filed by Surjit Singh Yadav through counsels Shashi Ranjan Kumar Singh and Mahesh Kumar, the plea contended that the misleading statements had negatively impacted public perception of the Central Government and the nation itself.
The court’s dismissal of the PIL underscores the judiciary’s stance on political matters, emphasizing the voters’ ability to discern truth from falsehood.
