Defence Minister Greenlights Expansion of NCC Units in J-K and Ladakh

ANI 20240108122551

New Delhi: In a significant development, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has given the nod to the establishment of four additional National Cadet Corps (NCC) units in the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir (J-K) and Ladakh.

The approved proposal entails the formation of one mixed (boys and girls) Army battalion each in Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir), Kupwara (Jammu and Kashmir), and Kargil (Ladakh), along with one Air Squadron at Udhampur (Jammu and Kashmir).

This decision is set to bolster the strength in Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh by 46.1%, with an increase of 12,860 cadets, supplementing the existing 27,870. Currently, the Directorate encompasses two group headquarters housing a total of 10 NCC units, spanning all three geographical regions. The expansion aims to uplift the morale of the youth in the region, fostering their significant contribution to nation-building.

The National Cadet Corps (NCC), the youth wing of the Indian Armed Forces headquartered in the national capital, operates on a voluntary basis and is open to school and college students. This move reflects a strategic initiative to further engage and empower the young generation in these regions.”
