Data matter of national security: MEA

New Delhi: The three-day 7th Global Technology Summit began on Tuesday. Minister of External Affairs Dr S Jaishankar, in the inaugural session, said that data is no longer a matter of business but of national security. India has started work on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, he said, the US has come forward for the same. Technology and supply chain are the core elements in this, which has been discussed bilaterally with various stakeholders like IPEF and QUAD, he said.

Technology is at the centre of geopolitics today. The world will hear about India’s credibility on the digital side in the days to come, he said. Jaishankar said where is the data going, it is no longer a matter of business and economics, but of national security. Now everything in the world is being made into a weapon.

Countries will have to think clearly on where they should protect their interests, Jaishankar said that India’s development is closely linked to the development of Indian technology.

The delegates will participate in this three-day conference both physically and virtually. It is India’s annual flagship conference on geotechnology, hosted by the Ministry of External Affairs and Carnegie India. The conference will feature views from the world’s leading intellectuals on technology, government, security, space, startups, data, law, public health, climate change, academic and economic issues. The theme of this year’s summit is ‘The Geopolitics of Technology’, featuring over 100 speakers. Ministers and senior government officials from the US, Singapore, Japan, Nigeria, Brazil, Bhutan, the European union and other countries are also participating in the summit.
